Online Degree-Completion Program in Management
The Walker College of Business is gauging interest in a degree-completion program, leading to the Bachelor of Science Business Administration degree in Management. It is intended for those seeking to prepare for leadership responsibilities in a technologically-oriented, diverse, dynamic, and global environment. The management major is designed to provide a well-founded knowledge of why people behave as they do in organizations; a knowledge of the dynamics and methods that are involved in leadership, motivation, communications, and group processes; and the skills necessary to think creatively in business.
The Department of Management will deliver upper-division coursework online to a cohort of 20 students - primarily those who have completed, or are close to completing, required coursework through a college transfer program (or equivalent lower-division coursework). During ten semesters (3.5 academic years), Appalachian faculty will deliver approximately 54 semester hours of program courses in areas such as business, finance, entrepreneurship, management leadership, statistics, marketing, information systems, and ethics.
Management courses will emphasize planning and strategic management; human resource management; entrepreneurship and venture opportunities; and decision making, problem solving, and communications. The program will provide a foundation for other areas of business such as accounting, economics, finance, marketing, and information systems. The curriculum is also designed for students who will continue into graduate education.
