Accessing the Appalachian Student ID Number

Effective April 2007 all enrolled Appalachian students have a unique identification number (which is not the Social Security number). Sometimes called the “Banner ID” because the number is generated from the student information system called Banner, the new identification number enables greater security of personally identifiable information.

Enrolled students have access to their new ID numbers in their individual AppalNET accounts.

1.  Go to:  http://portal.appstate.edu/cp/home/loginf
2.  Enter your AppalNET account login information
3.  Following login, click on the “Student Services" tab
4.  Under “Personal Information” click on the “Banner ID” link to view the new ID number. (The new ID number is 9 digits and begins with 9.)

The new identification number must be entered whenever a student ID number is requested.  For example, when an off-campus student uses the online Distance Learning Library resources, the new student ID number will be the number used.

A new Appalachian Student ID card, which has the new ID number embedded in the magnetic strip, is available.  (Off-campus students who choose to come to Appalachian’s main campus to check out books from the Belk Library must present the new Appalachian Student ID card.)
